What is COLA TTB ID

COLA TTB ID refers to the Certificate of Label Approval (COLA) issued by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) in the United States. The TTB is responsible for regulating and approving the labels for alcoholic beverages (wine, spirits, and beer) that are sold in the U.S. market. Every product that is sold or imported into the U.S. must obtain a COLA before it can be legally marketed or sold.

The COLA process ensures that the product labels comply with federal regulations regarding things like alcohol content, health warnings, and other required disclosures. The TTB assigns a unique COLA ID number to each approved label, which is used to track and reference the approval in official databases. The ID can also be searched in the TTB’s public COLA registry to verify the approval status of a product.

TTB ID – This is a unique, 14 digit number assigned by TTB to track each COLA.  The first 5 digits represent the calendar year and Julian date the application was received by TTB. The next 3 digits tell how the application was received (001 = e-filed; 002 & 003 = mailed/overnight; 000 = hand delivered). The last 6 digits is a sequential number that resets for each day and for each received code. Example filing.

This process is critical for alcohol producers and importers who want to enter or remain in compliance with U.S. market regulations. More info: https://www.ttb.gov/regulated-commodities/labeling/cola-public-registry
