Mexico-based drinks group Becle reported a net sales increase of 9.2% in 2019, boosted by super-premium Tequila.

In the year ending 31 December 2019, net sales rose to MXN$29,348 million pesos (US$1.48m). Volume sales also grew 7.5% over the year, reaching 22.1m nine-litre cases.

Jose Cuervo owner Becle said the group witnessed a “strong” fourth quarter, with net sales for the period increasing by 5.2% to MXN$10.4m pesos (US$525,621). Sales were boosted by a “solid performance” in the US, Canada and Mexico.

The company said it “continued to see strong depletion trends in the US and Canada while efficiently managing distributor’s Tequila inventories across all geographies”.

The group’s full-year net sales were boosted by “volume growth, higher average net selling prices per case and price increases, primarily reflecting the favourable sales mix toward premium spirits brands”.

Net sales in the US and Canada grew 8.1%, while Mexico increased by 16%. The rest of the world region saw sales rise by 2.9%.

In terms of individual brands, Jose Cuervo’s sales were up 11.5%. The firm’s other Tequila brands grew 13.5%, while ‘other spirits’ rose by 2.8%.

Net sales of non-alcoholic and ‘other’ grew 4.3% and ready-to-drink brands were up by 8.9%.

Becle said it “remains well positioned in the global spirits industry, with strong brands in high growth regions and categories”.
